As I was trying to come up with a name for the site, I wanted it to be unique and totally me. I didn't want to come up with another name like "Divine Judgment" or "Inori". Since this was going to be a portfolio site, I wanted something that sounded artsy and realistic. And if you know me irl, you will know that I am a very colorful person =) Duel/Di-Colored, Tri-Colored... they didn't sound unique enough. So I went with Tetra (4) Colored -- and I still love the name!
Purpose
I decided to open a portfolio site just before everyone else started to do the same! I'd imagine a lot of my reasons were similar. I wanted somewhere where I could be myself and be respected as myself... not be expected by people to put out a certain number of designs each month. Plus, I started getting a huge designer block AND I wanted somewhere to show off my traditional art.
I hope that TC inspires people, and I hope to have a mutualistic relationship with the people who visit! Affiliation
I decided to open TC for affiliation. I accept any sort of site (Design, Portfolio, Personal), have no qualms about how often you update (UNLESS you are a "personal site/blog", then it would be nice if you updated weekly), and have no real limit on how many people I'm open to. I'm not huge on keeping in contact off the internet browser either. I will visit your site often and comment on updates, but who knows when I will show up on MSN. Basically, I'll accept any site that I... well, like!
If you're interested in affiliation, email me at silversunofzuljin [at] hotmail [dot] com. Webdesigning History
I've been interested in webdesign for a very long time. When I was 10 years old, my former babysitter's son was watching me and my brother for the night. He showed me his sanrio website on geocities, and from that point on I have always wanted a website. I used to play around with a "create a website" program on the computer. My parents finally let me make a yahoo account on my birthday. Although no one visited my old websites, I used to create pages and pages of "dolls" and soon neopets when I began playing that when I was 11.
Neopets had a dramatic impact on my webdesigning. I finally started learning codes instead of relying on pagebuilders. My mom let me get Paint Shop Pro when I was 12 or so, and I started making my own graphics. I relied heavily on brushes, but understood what a color scheme was and that a overload of brushes was not attractive. At 13 I was exposed to graphic sites (primarily Aethereality and Day Dream Graphics) through neopets. I really wanted to make a website again. At first I used premades and supplied neopets graphics, but then started making my own site layouts. I doubt anyone visited my site, and at the time I didn't know what affiliates were and if there were other sucky sites out there like mine. As I got older I stopped playing neopets. In the fall of 2004 when I was 14, I got hosted by Em-Chan and opened a site called Ephemeral. The site was originally going to have a manga my friend and I were working on, but I soon just started putting some premade layouts on it. My older premade layouts were hardly editted, contained horrible coding, and really large. But they weren't hard on the eye like most people's "noob" graphics were. However I soon stopped designing and updating and Em-Chan closed down her domain. A year later in 2005 my interest in designing was revitalized. How, I am not quite sure. For my MYP project in school (MYP is sort of like the IB program), I decided I was going to create a website to offer hosting and graphics. This is how divine-judgment.net was created. My graphic skills were still pretty horrible, but soon I got Photoshop on my laptop and began using that to design. From spring 2005 to winter 2006, my designing improved exponentially. What started out as an unknown graphic site got transformed into a huge network of hosting and sponsoring. At it's peak in winter 2006, Divine Judgment got at least a hundred unique hits per day. However, I soon began to lose interest in the site. In spring 2006, I opened Inori Designs, featuring the earliest remnants of my current style. I finally learned how to blend and use textures. The site was not as popular as I imagined, but I updated frequently and made a lot of new friends. In fall 2007, I decided to close Inori for a few reasons: 1. I wasn't able to update often because of school/college apps and 2. I didn't want to feel like a burden to my affiliates and have pressure to be active. Tetra-Colored is my new portfolio site, and since it doesn't revolve around just web-design, I feel like I can do a lot more with it =) |
